The original Xbox One can only be used horizontally. The console comes with a black plastic stand you can use to hold it vertically, like the PS4. However, the HDMI input, infrared receiver and blaster, and the addition of a headset jack in the gamepad preserve the system's Cortana voice control and OneGuide television support. It lacks a Kinect port Microsoft seems to have completely abandoned the once-included camera.
The back panel holds two more USB ports, plus an HDMI input, an HDMI output, a 3.5mm infrared blaster port, an optical audio output, an Ethernet port, and a slot for a notebook lock. The front edge of the base holds a USB port, an infrared sensor, and a controller pairing button (relocated from the left side of the original Xbox One). The system's white shell, which is split into a smooth left half and a textured, almost Lego-like right half, sits on a slightly smaller square black base. This is a small improvement over the previous system and the Xbox 360 Slim before it, which both have extremely sensitive touch sensors for power buttons.
The button is now physical, so you need to actually press it to turn on the system.
